The Murphy and Gunn/Newlyn Group team had a confidence boost prior to this Sundays Irish road race championships when John Dempsey and Morgan Fox took first and second in the Paddy Flanagan Memorial in Kildare on Wednesday.
Ciaran Kelly (Sean Kelly/ACLVB M. Donnelly) was third, with Brian Taaffe (All Systems DWCC), Frank Dunne (Slaney CC), Robin Kelly (Comeragh CC), Eamon Peregrine (St. Tiernans CC) and Sean Reynolds (Stagg/Lucan CC) filling the rest of the top eight.
Kelly was on the top step of the podium one night earlier when he won the Phoenix GP in the Phoenix Park. Stagg Cycles 3 Day winner Anto Moran (Ravens CRC) was second, while fellow veterans Terry Ferris (Murphy & Gunn/Newlyn Group) and Eddie Lynch (Orwell/Dundrum Town Centre) were third and fourth.
