McEwen makes it five

Australian sprinter Robbie McEwen took his fifth victory in the Paris-Brussels, besting Belgian Gert Steegmans (Quick Step) and Italia Luca Paolini (Acqua & Sapone) at the end of the 221 kilometre long race. The win was McEwen's fourth in a row in the race between the two capitals. "I'm thrilled," McEwen said after an exhausting finale which was marked by several attacks from the Quick Step team. "We were all very tired, as you could see in the sprint. To win five times is great!"
The race began in cold and rainy conditions, and the clouds followed the riders throughout the five and a half hours of racing. The Quick Step team managed to break up the race, with Maarten Wynants and Sébastien Rosseler working to set up Steegmans for the win. Steegmans tried to attack on the final climb, but could not dislodge the Australian, who then took the sprint by several bike lengths.
