Prologue - March 18: Asmara, 8km

Just like their namesake!

Under faultless skies, 114 starters, representing thirteen national teams, began the fifth edition of the Tour of Eritrea. The addition of Erik Ruesing (Marco Polo Cycling Team), only added to the enthusiasm of the crowd of a few hundred that gathered to show support for their national tour.

Despite a slight headwind that picked up for the later starters along the finishing straight Eritrea's TT champion Muse Tekleab (Telecom Eritrea) did not disappoint, winning by a comfortable fourteen seconds over second place finisher Ivan Zacarias (Hamalite). Like its former European namesake, which also excelled against the clock, Eritrea's Telecom boys hold three of the top five spots after the prologue. Tomorrow's stage covers 172km between Asmara-Addi Quala-Asmara.
