Eeckhout leads Lotto trifecta

Niko Eeckhout (Lotto-Domo) won the 44th DELTA Profronde after jumping away from a leading group which formed 11 km before the finish. Included in the leading group were also Ludo Dierckxsens (Landbouwkrediet), Marc Wauters (Rabobank) and Piet Rooijakkers (Lowik-Tegeltoko), but just before the bunch took the leading group back, Niko Eeckhout attacked with one kilometre to go.
Eeckhout managed the sprint, while some metres behind him Robbie McEwen (Lotto-Domo) won the peloton sprint just ahead of teammate Stefan Van Dijk (Lotto-Domo). So Lotto-Domo took away the first three places after being the strongest team in the race. When Ruud Aerts (Van Hemert Groep) and Mikhail Timochine (Landbouwkrediet) got away and took 6'50 lead, Lotto-Domo in particular managed to close the gap.
Olympic champion Paolo Bettini (Quick.Step-Davitamon) finished in 8th place in the bunch sprint.
