This was an Under 23 World Cup event over a pretty tough course. The Australians were again going well although showing a little of the effect of the race the previous day. David Betts, Gene Bates and Brendan Cato all made the front group of 40, which split on the finish circuit which included four laps of a cobbled climb and once over another bigger climb. David Betts showed his consistency, running 12th and Gene cracked on the last lap to come in 29th, the last rider to be classified with the time limit, again tight at four minutes.
