Neben's first win in new colours

Autotrader.com team report

Amber Neben, the newest member of the AutoTrader.com Cycling Team, captured the first women's stage in the 2001 Cascade Cycling Classic.

The stage started at the Mount Bachelor Sunrise Ski Lodge base parking area and looped through the Cascade Lakes Basin. This course was a climbers dream with 2 QOM sprints and a steep 12 mile climb to the finish.

Early in the race the peloton survived several aggressive attacks and remained as one bunch for the first 40 miles. However, with 12 miles to go, AutoTrader.com's Kim Smith launched a sneak attack and instantly created a threatening gap. A small group of 10 riders, formed a chase and eventually pulled Smith back; but not without a free ride for AutoTrader.com teammates, Amber Neben, Susy Pryde, and Julie Young. Once Smith was caught, Neben counter attacked the bunch and soloed to victory, picking up the two QOM hot spots along the way. Nicole Demars (800.com) finished 2nd, over a minute behind Neben and AutoTrader.com's Kim Smith was 3rd, approximately 10 seconds behind Demars. Julie Young won the sprint among the small break for 4th place while teammate Susy Pryde was 9th.

"I had a lot of help from my new teammates. It's really fantastic to be riding with such a great team", says Amber Neben who recently signed with AutoTrader.com. Neben's first race in the AutoTrader.com jersey was the BMC Software Tour of Arlington last weekend, where she finished as the top American .
