ReportThe Grand Prix Europa is a Cat 1.5 Time Trial for Pairs held in Bergamo. It allows riders from different teams to ride together. Moldavian Ruslan Ivanov (Brescialat-Liquigas) and the elite amateur rider Massimo Cigana won the 31st edition of the race in Bergamo. The great favourites to take out the race were Marco Velo (Mercatone Uno-Bianchi) and Mark Serpellini (Brescialat-Liquigas), who unfortunately lost time when Velo punctured after only 20 kms. Velo said later: "I punctured after only 20 kms. Without that incident Serpellini and I would have won for sure."Velo will be even more determined next Saturday in the Florence-Pistoia Time Trial which closes the Italian racing season for 1998.
