Stage 10 - September 20: Munbura to Cook Town, 123 kms
It seems Jaap Vierger is unbeatable even by the likes of Phil Anderson. Viergever, who is always in the front with Robic, Lepere, Anderson and sometimes Aas, took the stage after a hard left which put Anderson into to a wall just before mounting the final stairs to the finish. The final kilometre today was straight up a climb to the Cook Town look out where the last pinch was on 20 odd stairs. It was a tough last kilometre and also a tough stage for those who were still recovering from the Hellish stage 9.
Australian Adrian Lang riding on a jerry rigged seat post attacked first and set a cracking pace. Lang has excellent skills and seemed eager to let us see. Following his capture Oyvind Aas had a go out the front. He was reeled in with 20 kilometres to go and then Viergever began to push the pace, eventually dropping everyone but Anderson.
The women seemed less interested in tactics today and more interested in completing the stage in one piece. And that's exactly what they did.
We are now back in Cook Town and happy to see some showers and beds
