As riders search for valuable points for next year's Beijing Olympic Games places, an international field, including no less than five national champions, presented itself on the starting line for the Alanya Cup in Turkey. The beautiful Alanya Castle provided the backdrop to this spectacular venue. An unexpected surprise for the riders though was the torrential downpour that started minutes before the start and continued throughout the race. Pre-race favourite Oli Beckingsale and Irish champion Robin Seymour demonstrated excellent technical skills in such hazardous conditions. Beckingsale started strong alongside Ukranian riders Igor Bogdan and Sergiy Rosenko. These riders were constantly being hounded by the chasing three of Seymour, Turkey's Bilal Akgul and Hungry's Andras Parti. Eventually Beckingsale, with his superior climbing ability, split the field and he was able to force a gap, giving him over a minute advantage to take the win.
