MTB index page for all MTB content Australia National MTB Series - Mountain Cross - NENewcastle, NSW, Australia, January 14, 2006BMX's Madill and world champion Kintner take series final victoriesBMX rider Luke Madill (Penrith) beat the National Mountain Cross Series leader Terrance Scarr (Raby Bay) to take out the final event today in Newcastle. The 25 year-old had the best start and stayed out of trouble to take victory ahead of Scarr. After the second turn, a crash between Slovakian rider, Filip Polc and Adam Nicholson (The Gap) saw them finish in third and fourth respectively. Madill rode consistently throughout the day, winning his quarter final and semi-final going on to win the final by a clear margin. Scarr took out the overall series crown with Alex Lloyd (St Clair) claiming second and Madill managed enough points to move himself up into third place in the overall. Two-time World Champion in Mountain Cross, Jill Kintner from the USA, impressed spectators by riding both the Mens and Womens events. In the mens heats Kintner managed to secure first place beating top rider, Adam Nicholson. However a crash in the quarter final of the mens program saw her progress no further. In the womens final the World Champion was challenged by young Canberra rider, Caroline Buchanan. Kintner won with Canberra pair Buchanan and Julia Boer in second and third respectively. Caroline certainly has improved, said Kintner. I was pretty pumped to see her come close. We had seven girls so its getting better. While Kinter took out the final, Buchanan did manage to score one up on her more experienced rival, beating Kintner in one of their three heats. After winning the three earlier rounds in the series, Buchanan had ample points to maintain her series lead and be crowned the '06/'07 champion. Second in the series was Sarsha Huntington (Bulimba) who had a crash earlier in the day but placed fourth in the final race. Julia Boer finished third in the series standings. The Under 19 Men's race was won by the eventual series victor, Michael Jobson. Following Jobson home in Newcastle was James Maltman, the second place at the closing round earning the Brisbane rider second in the championship. Riders from Spain and Croatia made it an international field, with over 100 riders competing in the series final.
