MTB index page for all MTB content National Mountain Bike Series 7 (NMBS-AMBC) - 1Snowmass, Colorado, USA, August 10-12, 2007Main Page Results Overall standings Previous Stage Next Stage Race 14 - August 12: Pro Men Short Track,Kabush takes second win for the weekendBy Sue George Only a day after he won the cross country, Geoff Kabush (Maxxis) also logged victory in the short track. He won ahead of Adam Craig (Giant) and Todd Wells (GT). Throughout the race, it looked like either Kabush, Jeremey Horgan-Kobelski (Subaru / Gary Fisher), or Wells could have won. Ryan Trebon (Kona Les Gets) launched an all-out attack off the front at the start, but he blew up, perhaps due to the altitude. "It was probably one of the tougher short track courses we've ridden, as far as physically challenging. It was a lot of climbing, but pretty smooth grass," said Kabush after the race. The course let him use his super light tires that helped him win the cross country the day before. Later, Kabush tried to get away, and only national cross country champion Craig could follow. Kabush won decisively, with a nine second margin over Craig. Wells was third at 17 seconds, Horgan-Kobelski was fourth at 37 seconds, and Trebon was fifth over one minute back. "It was a pretty fast race and there's a hairpin corner on the pavement before the start of each lap," said Kabush. "Every lap, I tried to wind it out as much as I could. I kept stretching those guys out as much as possible each lap. With a few laps to go, I was able to snap the elastic." The short track course was harder than many of the courses riders have encountered this year. It had one steep climb and one more gradual climb, and it was bit longer. With its significant hills and descent, Horgan-Kobelski described the course as how a short track should be. The fast guys quickly pulled the field to pieces. All but the top few riders were breathing hard on the very first steep climb of the first lap. Slower recovery at altitude may have taken a toll. Only 13 riders finished the complete distance. The rest were pulled as they fell off the back and were put at risk of being lapped. The ever dominant Kabush won the short track series. Horgan Kobelski took second overall, while Wells took third in the series. Trebon and rising star Sam Schultz (Subaru-Gary Fisher) were fourth and fifth. Kabush said he was pleased with his success at the NMBS this year and said it showed he was meeting one of his goals - a return to his form of 2005.
