The powerhouse German outfit of Carsten Bergemann, Jens Fiedler and Rene Wolff were deserving winners, riding a blistering 49.957 seconds to take out the team sprint title on the final day of competition.

The home team qualified third fastest with 50.503 behind Great Britain's 50.470 and France (50.498). But the Germans turned up the heat in the first round, posting an impressive 50.030 to set up a clash for the gold and silver medals with French trio Mickael Bourgain, Laurent Gane and Arnaud Tournant, who set a first round time of 50.125. France clocked 50.071 in taking silver, but Germany were the clear winners.

Defending champions Great Britain were pushed out into a duel with Australia for bronze, which the British team of Craig McLean, Jamie Staff and Chris Hoy won.
