47th Manhattan Beach Grand Prix - NEUSA, June 29, 2008Bahati rules Manhattan Beach againBy Mark Zalewski, North American Editor Rock Racing's top criterium specialist Rahsaan Bahati delivered another win Sunday, taking victory at the Manhattan Beach criterium in Los Angeles for the second time in a row. This criterium win comes after an impressive Athens Twilight win back in April, something he had been aiming for his entire career. But the double victory in Manhattan Beach was in front of his home crowd and team owner Michael Ball. Such was the trust in Bahati's abilities that his team even chased its own team member, who was in a mid-race breakaway in order to set up for a field sprint. "We just couldn't put all that pressure on Rudy [Napolitano] to come through at the end so we told him to just sit on and the rest of our guys helped bring them back," Bahati said. "I had a lot of trust in my team-mates and they delivered. With a lap to go, I was concerned about us getting swarmed," he added. "But our lead out was tremendous. The guys started sprinting with a kilometer to go." Bahati told Cyclingnews that he has been racing with several injuries for more than a year. While this race was one of a few on his list he was targeting this year, the criterium nationals in August remains his biggest mark. "My goal is to make it to Downers Grove - that is the race I've always wanted to win, because I've never won it as a pro," he said. In the women's race, TIBCO's speedstress Brooke Miller returned to her sprinting ways, besting Jenn McRae (Advil-Chapstick) and Laura Van Gilder (Cheerwine) for the win.
