Iran wants another winThe Iranian riders will again be the ones to beat in the 21 teams field competing
at the Jelajah Malaysia 2008 race, which will start on Monday at Putrajaya.
The Iranian Tabriz Petrochemical Cycling squad has highly competitive riders
such as Skil Shimano's Sports Manager, Hisatumi Imanishi, said that even though they are the only Professional Continental team competing this time around, he still thinks the Iranian team, which will be defending its title at the event, will be the biggest threat to his team. "Riders of Tabriz Petrochemical Cycling; Ghader and Hossein are the main threat to Skil Shimano due to their prowess in hill climb," said Imanishi. Another team from Iran, Islamic Azad University, is also a strong threat, as it has last year's event winner, Mehdi Sohrabi, in its lineup. Imanishi believes the Farso and Giant squads are also a threat to other teams, as both have gained numerous experience from their participation in European and Asian tours. Joost Koop, of team Differdange-Apiflo Vacances, said that his team had received one million Euro for its 2008 race program. "We are looking forward to win the race this time around as we have received a huge sponsorship for the team," he added. As for local teams, attention will be given to continental team, LeTua which will be competing head-to-head with the newborn MCF Continental team. Letua's rider, Anuar Manan, will be defending his position as the Sprint King of JM2007. The 2008 edition will be held from the January 7-13, with the first of its seven stages held from Putrajaya with the event travelling through the streets of Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, Johor and Genting Highlands before ending at Dataran Merdeka. This year's edition covers some 1,003.8 kilometres, offering an overall prize of RM245,000.
