Mickiewicz for Mroz

This was the second edition of this race, held in memorial of Henryk Lasak (who was a Polish national coach in the late 60's and early 70's). In many people's opinion, Lasak was the creator of Polish power in amateur road racing. He died in a car accident in January 1973, just a few months before the biggest successes of his riders at the Barcelona World's (Ryszard Szurkowski won the road race and together with Lucjan Lis, Tadeusz Mytnik and Stanislaw Szozda also the team time trial).

The race itself was held on a 30.8 kilometre circuit ridden 5 times - around Sucha Beskidzka. According to the report in "Przeglad Sportowy", on the first lap there was a break containing Piotr Wadecki, Lithuanian Remigius Lupeikis (from Mroz) and Cezary Zamana (MAT). Then for the next two laps Kazimierz Stafiej (Mroz) and Uros Murn (Slovenia - KRKA Telekom) were in front. After they were caught, Piotr Chmielewski (Mroz) tried his luck, but finally 19 men got away with 10 km to go, and at the finish Pawel Niedzwiecki and Stafiej successfully led out their sprinter Jacek Mickiewicz.
