The three French teams - France bleu, France rouge and France espoirs - are in the top three positions after night 2 of the Open des Nations in Bordeaux. The bleu boys, Florian Rousseau, Arnaud Tournant, Jérôme Neuville and Franck Perque have accumulated 255 points, more than 50 points clear of their nearest rivals, and they should finish on top of the standings after the racing concludes tomorrow.

The cycling started with Swiss rider Jean Nuttli's second attempt at the World Hour Record. Nuttli tried yesterday but abandoned after 21 minutes. Today he went the full hour and covered a respectable 47.093 km. It wasn't close to Boardman's incredible 49.441 km record, but Nuttli at least knows what it takes now.

The sprinters and endurance riders came on in the evening, with the first Madison being won by France Espoirs Saïd Haddou/Laurent d'Olivier, beating Marvulli/Aeschbach and Stocher/Garber after they took a lap out of the field.

The sprinting was also French dominated, with Florian Rousseau, Hervé Gané, Mickaël Bourgain and German Rene Wolff all making it through to the semi-finals. Rousseau and Gané defeated their opponents to make it through to the finals, with the espoir Gané triumphing over Rousseau.

The French continued their charge in the Flying Lap TT, with Laurent Gané clocking a quick 12.555 seconds for the 250m. He was followed by Arnaud Tournant (12.656) and Matthieu Mandard (12.910), all from the various French teams.

The Dutch had some joy in the elimination race, when Robert Slippens won ahead of Franco Marvulli and Jérôme Neuville. That helped move them into fourth place on the standings at the end of the night.

Austrian Franz Stocher won the points for the second consecutive time, while Laurent Gané won the night's final event, the Keirin.
