The last night of the Six Days of Ghent came down to a thrilling finale, with just 3 points separating the top two teams in the end. Try as they did, Matthew Gilmore and Bradley Wiggins could not close the gap to Swiss duo Bruno Risi/Kurt Betschart, who finished with 387 points to Gilmore/Wiggins' 384. A lap down, with an impressive total of 431 points, were Jimmi Madsen/Marty Nothstein, who combined well in Ghent to give the more favoured teams a run for their money. Had they not lost a lap several nights ago, they would have comfortably won the Ghent Six.
Risi/Betschart started off well, winning the Classement Sprints and Team Elimination races. However Gilmore/Wiggins were not giving up easily, and proceeded to win the 500m time trial, the first round of the Derny (Gilmore), and the Elimination (Wiggins). However it wasn't quite enough, and Risi/Betschart clung onto their lead at the end of the night.
In the Junior 3 Days, Dutch rider Wim Stroetinga was the winner in front of Belgians Kenny De Ketele and Angelo Ververken.
