2004 Queensland Elite Track Championships - NERockhampton, Australia, January 6, 2005Day 1 Wrap UpU19 and Elite Women 500m Time Trial - Meares Steams HomeThe Kenrick Tucker Velodrome was alight on day one of the Queensland State Track Cycling Championships when Olympic Champion and World Record Holder for the 500m Time Trial, Anna Meares took to the track to race her trademark event. Meares won the time trial in a time of 36.28, well ahead of her local Rockhampton counterparts, Deborah Lovely, Athens Weightlifing representative (39.71) and Alexandra Bright (39.76) in a night when the wind played havoc with the riders. However Meares rode through the wind with strength and composure and registered a solid time to take the gold medal in style. Balmoral cyclist Hayley Wright, 2004 World Junior Track Cycling team member and 2004 winner of the Australian U19 womens 500m Time Trial took gold in a time of 38.51 ahead of fellow club member Lizzie Clements (39.98) and Mackay's Chloe Macpherson (40.10). U19 and Elite Men 1 Lap Standing Time Trial - A Simonelli AffairIn a race of brute strength and power, Adam Simonelli (Broncos) took out the opening mens race, the standing 1 lap time trial in a time of 24.55, from Daniel Rynne (24.73) and Rockhampton's Damian Harris (24.78). The U19 division was won by Ben Simonelli (24.64) ahead of William Draffen (Townsville) and Joel Davis (Kangaroo Point). Rockhampton cyclist Jeremy Hogg narrowly missed out the bronze medal, with only .06 of a second separating 2nd and 4th. U19 and Elite Mens 4000m Teams Pursuit - Rockhampton Races HomeThe Rockhampton Cycling Club's senior mens pursuit team rode the 4000m Teams Pursuit with class and panache on the opening night, catching their younger counterparts, the Junior Rockhampton team within the first 2km of the race. The team of Miles Olman, Grant Irwin, Cameron Jennings and Mark Chadwick tore up the track to take the gold medal in a time of 4.38.29. The silver went to the Junior Rockhampton team of Jack Rassie, Neil Teichmann, Jeremy Hogg and Luke Seiler with Kangaroo Point taking the bronze medal. Photos
