Preview
The first of four rounds of the UCI Track World Cup Classics takes place in
Moscow, Russia between February 14-16. The dates for the various World Cups
have all been shifted forward this year, to account for the fact that the World's
in Shenzhen, China, will be held in July-August, much earlier than in previous
years. The UCI hopes that this will have a revitalising effect on track racing,
which has generally been overshadowed by road racing in the media.
The field for the Moscow round looks strong, with the likes of Ryan Bayley,
Ben Kersten, Luke Roberts and Kate Bates representing Australia, rising Cuban
star Adam Lopez, Brad Wiggins and Chris Newton (GBr), Laurent and Hervé Gané,
Frank Perque, Jerome Neuville and Juliette Vandekerckhove (France), Sergei Escobar
(Spain), Rene Wolf, Stefan Nimke, Jens Lehmann and Katrin Meinke (Germany),
Theo Bos (Netherlands), Marty Nothstein (USA), Alexei Markov (Russia), Franco
Marvulli (Switzerland), Natalia Tsilinskaya (Belarus), Li Jiang (China), and
Ainars Kiksis (Latvia).
