AVC kicks off with timed events

The Alpenrose Challenge kicked off Friday with a good turnout for the time trial events. In the early morning session Joe Field (GSC United) took the 2k pursuit in the Masters race with a 2:39.50 over local favorites Mark Altamarano (DeMarco Natural Foods) and Eric Christensen (Team Rose City). Todd Gallaher (AVA Counterbalance) won narrowly over Peter Drake (Fred Meyer).
The Elite Women saw a duel between Kele Murdin (Team Ultralink) and Jenn Wagnerin (Beaverton Bicycle Club) who rode against each other in the same heat. Murdin showed her strength and beat Wangerin.
Daniel Harm (Team Rubicon) looked smooth on his to winning the elite men's pursuit with a 5:01.73. CMG/Alpine Mortgages Seth Hosmer was second in 5:05.01. Evan Elken (Jittery Joe's) beat out Per Bjesse (Bike Central) by 56 seconds to take third with a 5:06.20.
The evening session was highlighted by an electric Elite Men's Kilo and a Qualifer Points Race. The Kilo was won by Steven Beardsley (CMG/Alpine Mortgage) over Matt Chater (Fast Twitch) and Felix Haspel (Synergy).
In the Qualifer Points Race, 19 riders vied to move on to the weekend's mass start events. Mark MacDonald (Barrie Cycling Club) stamped his authority on the event winning easily. Hosmer took second over Josh Weir and Jimmy Lingwood (Recycled Cycles/Raleigh).
