Not to be shown up but Katie, John Gendron had a solid showing in the junior races, showing that this little guy could have a serious future as a track cyclist. John managed to score three victories over his competitors!
The B Grade racing was fast from the start. Everybody was trying to see if they are ready for a trip the A Grade racing. Jason Williams (FixedGearFever Racing/ESW) scored the win in the Kierin, with Mark McCafferty (Hammer Racing) showing his track craft in the Scratch Race.
In the first two events, the A Grade Racing was looking like the Kevin Selker Show. Kevin, new to the Spike Professional Cycling Team had a little help in the Keirin as his teammate, Michael Blatchford launched a HUGE attack as the motor pulled off. The rest of the field was left to chase down Blatchford while Selker waited to pounce. As Blatchford was caught with just over a 1/2 lap to go, Selker unleashed some furious anger and won convincingly.
The field should have seen that Selker had a good pair of legs and taken that into account in the 10 lap race. Kevin wasn't about to sit back and watch somebody else win... in a sprint against David Lindsey (Excel) and Mike Cubison (Vitamin Cottage Racing), it was the SPiKE rider taking his second victory of the night.
The A/B grade madison was fast and furious from the gun. The team of Kevin Selker & Wealing (Spike Professional Cycling Team) took off like there was no tomorrow. About the time things started looking good for them, along game Mike Creed (TIAA-Cref) riding with David Lindsey wound up their motor and got the party going fast! Trying to hold off a seasoned professional and a champion sprinter in a madison is no easy task. In the end, only Cubison & Logan could even come close.
It was a great night of racing, shadows and all!
