Stonefield Cycles Newcastle Track LeagueStaffs, July 1, 2004The appearance of the British National Junior Track Squad produced the fastest 10 mile scratch seen in years with the final time being 20 mins 58 sec. The winner of the event was Geraint Thomas, Cardiff Jif lapped his three breakaway companions ,who had in turn lapped the entire field. In sprint for second Tom Walters, Dataphonics RT edged out Ross Sander, VC St Raphael, and local rider James Notley, Cyclestore.co.uk . The A Class racing was fast throughout the night with the top points scorer being Geraint Thomas who won 3 events. There seemed to be a nock on effect in the B Class events with the speeds high. The events again saw a battle between the two leaders of the league, Brian Entwistle and Jason Jones who both scored 4 points. Close behind was Olympic selected rider and Association President Emma Davies who scored 3 points. In the Juvenile Events there were some really close finishes. On the night the highest scorers were Andrew Magnier and Steven Hill, both Newcastle RC 2001 with 9 and 8 points. It was also pleasing to see Sassan Emadi move up from the Freewheelers events to main league and at 9 years of age clearly shows promise for the future. The Freewheelers racing that runs before the main league is becoming very popular. On the night 15 riders took part with ages ranching from 6 to 15 years. In group 1, new rider Daniel O'Sullivan won two events with another first time rider Zoe Houlton scoring 7 points. In group 2 Ewan McQuade won two events with his brother Alex McQuade scoring 4 points. Again the fastest 200m of this group was recorded by Tom Gowens. In group 3, the points were evenly spread over all the riders with close racing throughout. The top points scorers of the night with 6, was Dan Gowens, with Joseph Adams, Abegail Lynch and Nicola Evans close behind.
