2002 Tour de France bikes pt. 2
Tour bikes: Part
one, part two,
part three, part
four, part five
By Anthony Tan
European editor Tim Maloney's hard at work (sort of), wandering around "Tour
Central" and snapping some droolsome shots of the hottest bikes in the
peloton. Some of these are team specials, and of those, some might just make
it into production for the 2003 season and beyond. Now brace yourselves, and
please, use your handkerchiefs if you involuntarily start dripping saliva on
your keyboards.

Vlodomir Gustov's Fassa Bortolo Pinarello Prince LS. With Dedacciai U2
tubing and integrated 1 1/8" headset, this baby's even lighter than its
predecessor. Top-of-the-line Pinarello carbon Vola forks, Monocoque carbon
rear seat stays, Deda Elementi Newton stem and bars, Shimano's ubiquitous
Dura-Ace group, Selle Italia Flite Gel saddle to cushion out the bumps
and Vittoria CX tubulars glued onto Mavic Ksyrium SSC SL's.

|
Patrice Halgand's Jean Delatour Scott. Aluminium's still the go at Le
Tour, with Halgand's Scott using 7000 series aluminium and Topkey full
carbon 1 1/8" non-integrated headset. Popular MTB manufacturer Ritchey
have matured to roadie-status, supplying their top spec WCS bar and stem
combo to the JD boys, with Shimano kitting the squad out with the Dura-Ace
group and hoops. Flite saddle is once again by Selle Italia.

Santiago Perez's Kelme Look KG386, featuring a high-modulus carbon fibre
frame coupled with their HSC3 straight fork for tight steering. The popular
lads in green and blue use ITM Millennium stem and bars, Dura-Ace group
and wheelset combo (not shown), rolling on Vittoria CX rubbers and are
perched upon... you guessed it, Flite saddles. Blanco's a fearsome climber
and needs his setback, so Look's
custom seatpin come in handy.

Raivis Belohvosciks' Lampre-Daikin Fondriest Top Level. Deda Alu 107
frameset with Mizuno Domina carbon fork, Deda Magic bars and stem, Campagnolo
Record group with 32 hole Campy hubs on FIR's hula hoops. Belohvosciks'
bum rests on a very traditional-looking Selle San Marco saddle and enjoys
rolling on Vittoria CX tyres. See detail for Fondriest's "Progressive
Shock Absorber" carbon
triangle and "Monobox" bracket.

|
Raimondas Rumsas' Lampre-Daikin Fondriest Don Racer. Same paintjob, different
bike. Full carbon frame with non-integrated Mizuno Fiandre fork, Deda
Spectrum carbon fibre bars and Deda Mag00 magnesium stem. Rumsas gets
the special treatment with the Record carbon cranks and Selcof carbon
fibre seatpost. The Italian connection is complete with the Selle San
Marco saddle and Vittoria CX tyres. Is Don. Is good.

David Moncoutie's Cofidis MBK. Very French, very purdy. Columbus Airplane
main triangle with Time carbon fibre rear triangle and Time Avant Carbon
fork with 1 1/8" integrated
headset. It's the year 2002 but the ITM Millennium bar and stem combo
is as popular as ever. Lovely jubbly Campagnolo 10 speed group and Campy
Neutron wheels. Selle San Marco's MBK team issue Concor saddle rounds
out the package.
