2002 Tour de France bikes pt. 1
Tour bikes: Part
one, part two,
part three, part
four, part five
By Paul Mirtschin
European editor Tim Maloney had the camera running hot while wandering around
"Tour Central" where he managed to sneak
a few shots off of some of the hottest bikes in the peloton. Some of these are
team specials, and of those, some might just make it into production for the
2003 season and beyond.

Laurent Dufaux's new DeRosa Fluid TT bike. This is a frame
with some interesting lines. De Rosa have added a novel bump to the
downtube, and office speculation is that it either does something funky
to the aerodynamics, or is there purely for looks.

Alessio's Alexander Shefer will be riding this DeRosa King over the next
two weeks. Featuring a DeRosa high modulus carbon fiber frame and integrated
fork, Deda Elementi Newton stem and bars, Campagnolo Record 10V components
and Campagnolo Neutron wheels wrapped with Michelin Pro Race clinchers.

ONCE-Eroski Giant TCR Carbon / TdF 2002 Special Edition. With black and
gold as far as the eye can see, the ONCE-Eroski Giant will be turning
heads all the way to Paris. We previewed this bike a few days ago here.

FDJ.Com's Lapierre sports a full carbon fork hanging off a Scandium frame.
Shimano's Dura-Ace group makes up the shiny bits and the new Dura-Ace
carbon wheels with Michelin Service Course tubulars do the rolling.

Lotto-Addeco Team Litespeed Ghisallo is one of the few big names holding
onto the non-integrated headset idea. Titanium frame, Reynolds carbon
fiber Ouzo Pro forks and Dura-Ace components and wheels. Deda Newton bars
and stem round out the package.
