Division 1 credibility is important for US bicycle manufacturers, so as soon as it looked like Festina were to abandon its role as lead sponsor of a European squad, Specialized found a new team to sponsor, Acqua e Sapone, the new home for Mario Cipollini. At Interbike, the actual machine ridden in the 2001 Tour de France prologue by Christophe Moreau took pride of place.
