It's odd that Spain has the Vuelta, its own peloton of top riders and no shortage of Division I teams but no bike manufacturers with the reputation and sought-afterness of a Pinarello or a Colnago. Orbea is clearly trying to move into the fantasy framebuilder pantheon, with its sponsorship of Euskaltel-Eskadi giving rise to bikes like the Team. We want one, if only for the chance to use it as Exhibit A next time a Sydney cabbie says "Sorry, mate, I didn't see you."

Iguana is the latest from Northwave. In a departure from the company's traditional Velcro closures, the Iguana has a buckle to snug the upper round your foot, as well as a novel sole that reminds us more of tyre tread designs than traditional walking-shoe influenced mountain bike shoe rubber.

Nike gets dirty

After a quiet spell in the mountain bike shoe area, Nike is back with this racing shoe inspired by the Hautacam road model. What Lance wears in the dirt?

And also…

Nicolai: Renowned German mountain bike builder Nicolai has an even more serious-looking road bike than the Look KG 381; the Argon Road is Felt-inspired with 'none more black' powder coat and gate-like squared-off rear triangle. Is this the epitome of Teutonic road iron?

SRAM: Industrial design comes to cycling with SRAM's cool new Smartbar, an integrated, multi-adjustable handlebar setup for city bikes.

Speedplay: Richard Bryne had his new Zero pedal at Eurobike; the new, incrementally adjustable pedal is gaining supporters in the pro peloton.
