Dedatre RS Corsa open tubular

Dedatre is a relatively new player in the huge and diverse tyre arena, but if first glance at these very light and well-finished tyres is anything to go by, the newcomer will rapidly find itself popular. Dedatre is the tyre arm of tubing and component maker Dedacciai and has been supplying tyres this year to the Illes Balears and Fassa Bortolo teams.

Weighing just 195g, the RS Corsa is described as an 'open tubular' which means it uses the same very lightweight 300 tpi casing as Deda's top of the line Olimpico tubular, but wraps the casing round a bead so it can be used with clincher rims. The tread has a file pattern center section and herringbone sides, in a very traditional racing tyre configuration. The tread layer is minimal, to keep the weight down, which tends to imply durability isn't a design aim of these tyres - but these are clearly race-day-only tyres.

To go with the RS Corsa tyres, Dedatre also offers 70g Camera latex inner tubes, and close-fitting plastic rim strips (which Deda calls 'flaps' - a translation of Italian slang, apparently).

For a bit of a look inside Deda, see our Italia Bici section.

Unconventional Medicinals ÖÂ Smooth Ride anti-chafe cream

Unconventional Medicinals ÖÂ Smooth Ride anti-chafe cream contains a mixture of lubricants to help keep you comfortable on long rides (or stop you getting rubbed by your wetsuit if you're a surfer, according to Unconventional Medicinals).

Ingredients include dimethicone, a silicone oil which is the main anti friction/chafe component plus tea tree oil and peppermint oil, the latter of which helps to give it a pleasant minty smell, as well as having antiseptic properties, while the tea tree oil is anti-fungal, anti-microbial, "both of which are very helpful in cycling shorts!" says UnconMed's Brent Witters.

Price: $11.99 per 8 oz bottle

ProGold ProLink chain lube & cable luber

ProLink chain lube is a thin-bodied oil that contains uses MFR technology, a molecule which bonds to the metal surface, according to manufacturer ProGold. Rather than being a conventional oil or wax-based, 'dry lube', then, this is a metal 'surface treatment' that keeps your chain turning smoothly.

As a result, according to ProGold and quite a few user testimonials out there on various places on the Interweb, it doesn't collect dust and dirt and resists being washed off.

ProLink is also available in this nifty cable luber, which appeals to us regardless of the efficacy of the lube. It's a pen-shaped widget with a long metal needle that allows you to inject ProLink into sticky cables , restoring the smoothness of your shifting without replacing cables or taking them apart to squirt grease into them.

Prices: ProLink 4 oz bottle: US$7.50 (approx AU$20) - cable oiler: US$4.99 (approx AU$15)
