Scott Bicycles announced it will stop sponsorship of the Spanish ProTour Team, Scott-American Beef for the 2009 season. The team was linked to doping issues when its star rider, Riccardo Riccò, tested positive for EPO-CERA in the Tour de France. Scott took over title sponsorship after the events and the departure of former head sponsor, Saunier Duval.
"Scott has been a partner with [Team Manager] Mauro Gianetti's team since the
beginning in 2004. In all the past years, the team celebrated some remarkable
victories. We would like to thank the team for the cooperation in the
past years and we wish the team and new sponsors all the best for the
future," stated Pascal Ducrot, VP Scott Sports SA, in a press release.
