Results

In three short weeks in October Levi Leipheimer rose from being a US Postal domestique to standing on the podium of the Vuelta. It was easily the most dramatic emergence into the limelight of 2001 and you've rewarded it with the accolade of most improved rider. The Vuelta was also the finest hour of Oscar Sevilla, who battled to retain the leader jersey in the mountains only to lose it in the final time trial, and takes second place in the poll. The bronze goes to David Millar who also shone in the Vuelta. Laurent Jalabert's remarkable transformation from sprinter to climber (albeit not of ladders) earned him fourth, and season end comeback man Richard Virenque took fifth.
