RTTC-Rudy Project Time Trial Series - Round 2May 11, 2002Its one all after the second round of the RTTC-Rudy Project Time Trial Series, held at Holt, Dorset, on Saturday, May 11, 2002. After Stuart Dangerfield (Camel Valley C&TC-Business Solutions) won the opening leg in Windermere, Cumbria, in April, it was the turn of Michael Hutchinson (Team MDT-Giant) to take the honours this time out. In a closely fought contest over the 27.3 mile course Hutchinson ran out the winner with a time of 59.02 to Dangerfield's 59.04. Dangerfield led for two-thirds of the distance, holding a 21 second advantage at 9.1 miles and 11 seconds at 18.2 miles. With three miles remaining Dangerfield's lead had changed to a five second deficit on Hutchinson. Despite a big effort over the last climb Dangerfield was two seconds adrift of first place. With Dangerfield suffering from a cold and Hutchinson recovering from a hard ride 48 hours earlier when he had to travel to Northern Ireland for a Commonwealth Games selection event, which he won, neither rider was very confident before the start. "Its the first time I have ever beaten Stuart in a national level time trial," a pleased Hutchinson said. Dangerfield accepted his second place with grace, not expecting his defeat to affect his own Commonwealth Games selection chances.
