LVRC King of the Bowl - Final Series OverallAugust 30, 2002From Dick Selley & Ron Day (North Bucks RC) The summer long League of Veteran Racing Cyclists 'King of the Bowl' series concluded last week with the annual awards Dinner and Prize Presentations. The series has again attracted record numbers, and remains one of the largest growth areas in cyclesport. Taking overall victory in the ABC 40 - 55 age group for the second successive year was Old Farm Park's Bob Varney (Alpha RC - Phil Corley Cycles) with four race wins, from his team mate Paul Freeman with two wins and Keir Maris (KTM Racing), who tied with Freeman for second place, with three outright victories. Varney received his trophy from stalwart LVRC organiser Ron Day and thanked Ron for his hard work on behalf of Veterans racing over the years. " I am sure that I speak for everybody here Ron, when I say how pleased we all are that you have recovered so well from your serious injuries, and we all look forward to seeing you back out on your bike soon." In the older DEF 55 - 70 age group it was Bob Richards (Nene Valley RT) who dominated the racing to reclaim the title he last held in 2000. Richards won the series with a record score of 35 points. Murray Kirton (A5 Rangers CC) was rewarded for his consistency with second place overall, an improvement on his fourth place overall last year. Dave Benger finished in third place.
