RTTC-Rudy Project Time Trial - round 1

Cumbria, April 14, 2002

British time trial circuit champion Stuart Dangerfield proved a winter spent in Australia was well worth it when he won the opening round of the RTTC-Rudy Project Time Trial Series, the Booths Supermarkets Grand Prix around Lake Windermere, in Cumbria.

Dangerfield, who is after Commonwealth Games selection, took 58.04 to cover the 25.7 mile course that circles Lake Windermere beating runner-up Michael Hutchinson, the 2001 overall winner of the RTTC-Rudy Project Series, by 1.58 while third placed Kevin Dawson, 2001's British Best All Rounder, came home 2.11 adrift of the flying Dangerfield.

Just four seconds off of Dawson's pace was last year's event winner Matt Bottrill, fourth at 2.15.

Last year's event had to be postponed from April until October because of the foot-and-mouth disease restrictions then current throughout much of Britain. This year with the all-clear given the event had one of its best ever entries with 130 riders listed in the race programme chasing the £1,300 prize list.

The national series continues with a further five national events in May, June, July and August supported by 21 local events between now and October. The overall winner is decided on points.
