Christy McManus TrophyRoundwood, Co. Wicklow, March 22, 2003Hat-trick for BrackenTommy Campbell, Irish Independent/Evening Herald/Sunday Independent Yesterday, for the first time in the promotion of the Christy McManus Cycling Trophy, Sean Bracken of the Usher Irish Road Club made it three wins on the trot in Roundwood, Co. Wicklow. Sean's victory was fashioned on the tough climb into the village of Rathdrum where he split the field and went ahead in the company of Terry Ferris of the Dublin Wheelers and Paul McMahon of the promoting club Bray Wheelers. The trio were quick into their stride, but McMahon was suffering because of the initial move forward and dropped back, but Bracken and Ferris had no intention of succumbing to the chasing pack. With a couple of miles remaining to the finish in the highest village in Ireland (Roundwood), Bracken sensed that he had the opportunity of staying clear leaving Ferris adrift and raced ahead to carve out a piece of cycling history. A long time patron of the Bray Wheelers, Duff's of Bray, sponsored the event. Results, 45 miles1 S. Bracken (Usher IRC) 1.54.50 2 S. McDonald (Orwell Wheelers) 0.20 3 T.
