Josefski takes Tech Challenge curtain-raiser crit

The 2002 Technology Challenge came to the streets of Maryborough on the weekend with teams from all over Queensland pedalling their Human Powered Vehicles. Maryborough Cycle Club riders and officials were on hand to help out during the 24hr event. The club also staged two criteriums as a curtain raiser to the Technology Challenge.

Vets and Juniors ran together in the first event and it did not take Hayden Josefski long to test the bunch. Four riders were able to match the pace staying together until the finish. The sprint for the line was fought out between veteran Trevor Geysing and Hayden, the younger rider holding out his experienced rival by half a wheel. Peter Ransome rode a good race to come in third.

A and B grades combined for their race and Marty Leahy kept the pace high during the opening laps. By the forth lap the field had split in two leaving six riders clear on the front. Marty and Clint Johnson were making life difficult for the rest with repeated attacks but the bunch managed to keep it all together until the finish. Clint Johnson led them out and although a strong challenge came from Marty, Clint crossed a bike length in front. Mark Heatherington crossed to take third.
