A and B grades combined for their 55km race which included the notorious Mungar circuit. The stronger riders put the hammer down through the hills near Yerra and the bunch split into three groups. By the end of the race only six of the original starters were left in the front group. They picked up the pace about 400mts out and Bruce Phersson lead them out. Marty Leahy made the decisive move with about 150mts to go and held off a fast finishing Brendan Ridgley. Bruce Phersson held on for third place. Vets combined with C grade for their 35km race around the Mungar circuit. The vets set a good pace early and were working well together so a respectable time was on the cards. By the 10km mark Nev Ransome dropped off the back, unable to recover properly over the top of some of the steep hills encountered. Ron Wroe, Trevor Geysing and Ron McKay pushed on and kept the pace up. Trevor Geysing was doing a mountain of work with some huge turns on the front. As they turned from Mungar Road onto Gayndah Road the pace picked up a bit and Trevor again went to the front, the others positioning themselves ready for the sprint. Ron Wroe was too strong in the sprint and left Trevor Geysing and Ron McKay to fill the minor places. New young rider Steve Donaldson completed a 10km course for the D grade event. Racing next week is on Gayndah Road for Club Championships. Nominations 1.30pm racing starts 2.00pm. Further inquiries Phone 41281227.
