Kirsipuu wins last stage, keeps overall

Ag2r's Jaan Kirsipuu has triumphed in the Driedaagse van West-Vlaanderen, after winning the second and final stage in a bunch sprint. Kirsipuu managed to turn the tables on Jimmy Casper today, beating the FDJeux.com rider into second place, with Jeroen Blijlevens (BankGiroLoterij) taking third. The time bonus for winning gave Kirsipuu a four second advantage over Casper in the overall, as he continued his good early season form.

The 188 km stage was run in the hills of the Vlaamse Ardennen, including the climbs of Kemmelberg, Monteberg, Rodeberg, Zwarteberg, and several others. On another cold and windy day in Flanders, a breakaway containing Matthew Hayman (Rabobank), Frédéric Finot (Jean Delatour) and Bert De Waele (Landbouwkrediet) held sway over the peloton for much of the stage. However they were all caught by the peloton before the finish, with De Waele the last to fall at 1 km to go.

Blijlevens led out the sprint early, however he was overcome by Kirsipuu and Casper, in a reversal of yesterday's stage placings.
