Svorada takes bunch sprint
Czech Jan Svorada (Lampre) has won the first road stage of the Tour of Rhodes, 160 km starting and finishing in Rhodes. Svorada was quicker than Fred Rodriguez (Sidermec) and Rudi Kemna (BankGiroLoterij) in the mass sprint. Overall, there were no changes in the general classification, with German Sebastian Lang (Gerolsteiner) holding onto his four second lead over Bart Voskamp and Brett Lancaster.

The sunshine was back on the Isle of Rhodes after several days with storms and rainy weather.
The riders today got served 160 km from Gennadi to Apolakkia. The stage ended as expected in a sprint finale. Crossing the line in 11th position, Magnus Bäckstedt was the first ranked Team fakta rider.
"We didn't go into the sprint in the best possible position, otherwise it could have been a lot better. Frank Høj lost aprox 7 min. because he unluckily punctured just as the peloton got the wind behind them and the speed went up immensely. Now we have to see if we can get him into a break tomorrow as he is no longer a threat to the General Classification," said Peter Meinert.
Tomorrow's stage may well be a chaotic affair according to Meinert. "I have been out to scout some of the roads they shall race on tomorrow and in several spots there is a lot of water because of creeks which flooded due to the bad weather of the previous days. So there will be some excitement to see what is going to happen. We will try to go for it ourselves."
Stage 1 was won by Jan Svorada in front of Fred Rodriguez and Rudi Kemna. Sebastian Lang from Gerolsteiner is still leading GC. The best Team fakta rider is Magnus Bäckstedt who is 14th, 7 sec. behind Lang.
