Lang wins Rhodes prologue
German Sebastian Lang (Gerolsteiner) has time trialed his way into the lead of the 9th Tour of Rhodes, winning the 3.4 km prologue time trial today. The 23 year old time trial specialist clocked 4'07.50 seconds for the distance, an average speed of 49.55 km/h. Four seconds behind him were a handful of riders, with Bart Voskamp (Bankgiroloterij) in second followed by pursuit specialist Brett Lancaster (Panaria).
The race was run in good conditions, after the storm that delayed several teams in Athens a few days ago passed over. Lang's victory is his third as a pro, after winning two stages of the Rheinland-Pfalz-Rundfahrt last year in his debut with Gerolsteiner. At the World Championships in Lisbon in 2001, Lang finished second behind Danny Pate in the U23 time trial.
