The Lampre team finished off a perfect day's work by taking the second half stage of the Settimana Coppi e Bartali, an 8.2 kilometre team time trial around Rimini. The Lampre boys clocked an impressive 8'47 for the distance, an average speed of over 56 km/h. They beat the Saeco team by just two seconds, with Landbouwkrediet-Colnago finishing third, 4 seconds behind. Marco Pantani's Mercatone Uno-Scanavino team also rode well, finishing in fifth spot, only 8 seconds off the winning time.

The win means that Lampre's Jan Svorada and Alberto Loddo keep their top two positions on the classification, with Saeco's Ivan Quaranta in third place at 6 seconds. Tomorrow's stage is from Riccione to Faenza, and will be run over 233 km, the longest of the five day race.
