Planckaert edges out Verheyen

Belgian sprinter Jo Planckaert (Cofidis) has won the second stage of the Etoile des Bessèges, disputed around Marseilles over 154 km. Planckaert beat home Geert Verheyen (Marlux) in a photo finish, with Laurent Lefèvre (Jean Delatour) taking third place. Race leader Fabio Baldato (Alessio) finished fifth and therefore kept his leader's jersey.
The Etoile des Bessèges has been a successful hunting ground for Planckaert, having won it twice (1998 and 2000) as well as a stage win in 1999. The 32 year old from Belgium's best known cycling family is hoping that it's a sign of good things to come this year.
