De Jongh confirms form
Voskamp crashes out of contention

This morning's cold, wet and windy stage of the Driedaagse van De Panne saw Dutchman Steven de Jongh (Rabobank) claim his second win within a week, sprinting across the line in De Panne just ahead of Jo Planckaert (Cofidis). In third place was Fabio Baldato (Alessio), who picked up a few more bonus seconds to move into a clear second place overall. The race lead stayed with Gianluca Bortolami (Caldirola-Sidermec), who will go into this afternoon's 13.7 km time trial with 25 seconds lead over Christophe Mengin (FDJeux.com), after second placed Bart Voskamp (BankGiroLoterij) abandoned the race following a crash.
The 110 km stage consisted of a large loop around West Flanders, followed by a 9 km finishing circuit in De Panne. The strong winds and course direction changes made life tough in the peloton, and echelons were the order of the day. Bortolami was strong, and kept himself out of trouble in the leading group, along with most of the other top riders on GC, including last year's winner Peter Van Petegem, who managed to take a few bonus seconds from Bortolami in sprint on the local lap.

Bortolami's did suffer a flat tire at one stage, but he managed to get back with the leaders before the finish. Less lucky was Bart Voskamp, who started the day only one second behind Bortolami on GC. After a bad crash, the Dutch time trial specialist was forced to abandon, losing an excellent opportunity for overall victory.
Another crash in the finale enabled Steven de Jongh and Jo Planckaert to break away, with De Jongh just getting the better of Planckaert, who is still hunting for his first race win of the year. Yesterday's stage winner Baldato finished third, and thus gained 4 more bonus seconds for the GC.
The Driedaagse van De Panne will be decided this afternoon with a technical 13.7 km time trial around the coastal town, with Bortolami having a more comfortable lead on his rivals now. But Nico Mattan, Viatcheslav Ekimov and Raivis Belohvosciks are all good against the clock, and could make up the 43 second deficit to Bortolami.
