Sulzberger Takes Stage

Tasmanian cyclist, Bernard Sulzberger broke through for a much deserved win in the second stage of the Tour of Sunraysia. The four day, 500km tour is being held around Mildura in Victoria and features more than 100 of Australia's top domestic riders.

Sulzberger was part of a four man break that moved clear of the 20 strong front group in the closing section of the 83km stage from Merbein to Irymple.

After being beaten in the penultimate round of the Tattersall's Cup, The 18 year old TIS scholarship holder made sure of himself in the sprint, beating Tour of the Tamar winner Peter Milostic.

Both Sulzberger and Milostic were lucky to avoid a number of crashes in the morning criterium, which saw Tattersall's Series winner Leigh Egan taken to hospital. A number of other riders, including Nathan Russell, Phil Thuaux and Leon Vogels, lost skin in crashes on the high speed circuit, with Thuaux retiring from the afternoon stage after 10km.

The criterium was won in a breakaway by Jaarod Poad of Western Australia, who only entered the race at the last minute.

The racing continues on Friday with a criterium and 120km road stage in Ouyen.
