Mads Kaggestad comes of age at home

Team Krone made an unexpected impact on the final stage of the Ringerike Grand Prix by claiming first and second place overall with Mads Kaggestad and Gabriel Rasch. At the very end, they reversed a situation that didn't look too good before. Until the last stage, Swede Gustav Larsson of the Crescent team was the most impressive rider, especially after his 150 kilometres solo ride on day one under a pouring rain. He's for sure a guy to watch for the future.
But the Norwegians took their revenge by riding intelligently in the last stage. In the very hilly section of the final circuit, Gabriel Rasch went away and Mads Kaggestad counter-attacked after Fredrik Modin who was second on GC. Five men stayed away: Kaggestad, Rasch, Morten Hegreberg of Sandnes, Saturday's winner Andrew Randell from Canada and Henrik Sparr from the National Swedish team, who claimed the stage victory.
As Team Krone is built on the foundations of the Ringerike Sykkel Klubb who organises the only UCI race in Norway, the celebrations were huge on the very crowded finishing line for Kaggestad, who is also a local boy and the son of Johan, a very well respected multisport coach and tv-commentator.
"This is the best win in my career so far," Mads said. "I've dreamed to win this race since I was a little boy. Every year I came and cheered for the big riders and now I'm the big one and I could see the small guys watching me."
Aged 24, he's a neo-pro with Team Krone after riding for ACBB in France last year. He recently came 3rd in the Circuit des Ardennes in France.
"This win is a big push up for our team," directeur sportif Oyvind Lillehagen declared. Team Krone will ride at a higher level in the next week with the GP Villers-Cotterets (1.3 on May 20) and the Vuelta a Navarra in Spain coming up. Watch out for the young Vikings, they are ready to invade the whole of Europe.
