First win for neo's Jérôme Pineau

Jérôme Pineau, 22, neo-pro from Bonjour after being nominated best U23 in France last year, has claimed his first pro win in the Tour of Normandy at the end of a suspenseful race.
The classiest rider seen during the week is Filippo Pozzato who took no less than four stage wins. If he didn't miss the breakaway on the first day, when he had a puncture, he would have dominated this race in the manner as Thor Hushovd one year before.
Now, let's remember that the second yellow jersey, Lithuanian Raimondas Vilcinskas of MROZ, also had a flat the following day, that's why he lost the leadership but he showed enough strength to be able to keep it without any mechanical problem. Another important fact is that Arkadius Wojtas of Poland missed the yellow jersey when he lost time doing the cross sign when he won in Cherbourg.

One day to go, Pineau stole the first place from fakta's Jorgen Bo Petersen thanks to the bonus on the way. He had only one second advantage before the last stage and was threatened by an unexpected Croatian, Radoslaw Rogina who is also a neo-pro from KRKA. He was the member of a six men breakaway initiated by Team Krone's Mads Kaggestad who reached the town of Caen with a margin that would have allowed him to win the overall, but Pineau was fortunate to have super team-mates such as local boy Charles Guilbert who taught him how to close the gap just at the very end.
The chasing group never caught the leaders though. The fastest of the six was Pierre Ackermann from Jura Suisse. This 30 year old rider started cycling when he 23 and rode for the Post Swiss Team in the past two seasons. He came 5th in the prologue in the Tour of Normandy and stayed 100 meters behind Wojtas' breakaway on the way to Cherbourg, so he's another GC contender who has been unfortunate.
After all that combined, Jérôme Pineau has helped the only team from the first division competing in the Tour of Normandy to make the hierarchy respected.
