Stage 5 - August 2: Martinsburg Circuit Road Race, 128km

Van Gilder climbs from third to second

Team Rona report

In today's stage, a moderately rolling circuit around Martinsburg, the field seemed to protect everybody's respective places and produced a slow races where no one attacked seriously. After a long, uneventful bicycle ride, Laura Van Gilder (Trek Plus) won the sprint and the stage in front Tina Mayolo-Pic (Diet Rite). Only the bonuses, and a break in the pack one kilometer from the finish, changed anything in the general classification. Van Gilder's 15 second bonus gave her in one place in GC. She is now second.

Tomorrow's stage may supply an explanation for today's slow pace – another 160km stage, with three major climbs.
