Evgueni Petrov wins stage and jersey

Evgueni Petrov (Mapei-Quick Step) won today's most difficult stage of the Tour of Slovenia, from Ivanica Gorica to Ajdovsina. It was the Russian rider's second win as a professional after his success in the Tour de L'Ain time trial last year.

Petrov made his move 22 kilometres from the finish of the 175 kilometre stage on the final mountain sprint. Three riders went with him on the long downhill to the finish line, but in the sprint, Petrov got the better of the Austrian rider Hannes Hempel and Croatian Massimo Demarin.

Thanks to his performance today, with just two days until the end of the race, Petrov is also leading the general classification. Adding to this Petrov's teammate Sinkewitz gained the white jersey as best young rider.
