23rd International Bayern Rundfahrt - 2.3Germany, May 22-26, 20022001 Results Preview Stage List Start List Past winners The Stages
PreviewThe International Bayern-Rundfahrt is a 2.3 category stage race, held from May 22-26. The 23rd edition will take the riders over a 900km long parcours, from Füssen in Allgäu, over Bad Wörishofen, Gunzenhauzen, Schwabach and Marktredwithz to the finish in Neumarkt/Opf. The profile of the six stages has been altered and even though the parcours holds no real topographic difficulties, there are quite a few Cat. 1 and 2 climbs, and stage five which leads the peloton through the heights of the Fränkischen Jura, with a 1st category climb in Steinwald to be crossed twice. The open question remains as to which sprinters will be able to leave an impression on this year's edition. Jens Voigt will for sure go for a third consecutive victory, after the great performance he put down in 2000 and 2001. Although this race is on at the same time as the Giro and the Tour of Belgium, the organizers have attracted a very nice field for the start and it promises to be a very interesting race. Deutsche Telekom of course with Zabel, according to many already close to a fantastic form in preparation for the Tour de France, surrounded by Aldag, Klier, Wesemann, Klöden and Fagnini. Also Crédit Agricole (Voigt, O'Grady), Mapei, Gerolsteiner, Coast and Alessio, will participate. Second division's best performing team so far this season, Team EDS-fakta (Petersen, Sunderland) has slightly changed their line-up, as they were given a last-minute notice their invitation to the Tour of Belgium was cancelled because of organisational complications.
