Will Frischkorn Crowned Espoir National Champion

Despite a late arrival at 1:30 am this morning into Clemson, South Carolina, Saturn's Will Frischkorn bested a strong field of espoir (under 23) riders to win the National Road Race Championships.
Similar to the Elite National Championships held in Nashville, temperatures topped the 95 degree mark and the humidity punctuated the overbearing heat. The 85 mile race was held on a 21 mile loop which the riders completed four times. The course was rolling with a solid three mile climb coming into the start/finish. The field of 100 riders saw a normal attrition rate with frequent attacks and counter attacks until the final time up the second to last climb. After the climb had thinned out the field, three escaped on the descent. Along with Frischkorn was Patrick McCarty (US National) and Jonathan Erdelyi (Brielle Cyclery). The three worked together until they arrived at the base of the final climb. From there, it was Frischkorn setting a strong tempo, shedding Erdelyi and then finally McCarty as he dropped off the pace. Frischkorn finished solo, to take the win by nearly 55 seconds and plenty of time to raise his hands in celebration of his impressive win.
McCarty finished in second followed by Erdelyi. Fourth was Mark Fitzgerald (US National) in front of fifth place Mike Creed (Prime Alliance).
