41st GP Palio del Recioto - 1.7.1Italy, April 2, 20022001 Results Results Past winners
ReportBy Brian Stephens, Australian U23 coach Tuesday saw the running of the GP Recioto near Verona. The AIS Mapei Aqua team was represented by David Pell, Simon Gerrans, Dave McPartland, Jeremy Yates, Adrian Laidler and Gene Bates. Several of these riders were backing up for their 3rd race day in a row. The course consisted of a 5 laps of a 20km circuit including a tough climb with a final circuit of 35km with an 8 kilometer climb followed by a similar length decent to the finish. David McPartland and Adrian Laidler did well to put themselves in a 20 man break at the halfway mark. This stayed clear to the final climb when it split and some riders from the main group were able to get across to it. At the top of the last climb, Laidler was in a group of two behind two single riders with McPartland in a group of four just behind him. This came together on the descent and Tosoni managed to get clear of the group after crossing from the main group. Dave McPartland had his best result so far to finish 10th and Adrian Laidler proved his form last week was no fluke to finish 11th. So far the lads have not finished outside the top 10 in any of the 5 races they have done so far in this year's campaign.
