Stage 3 - September 9: Track racing - Day 3
Britain dominates third day of racing
The British Paralympic team put on a display of utter domination on the third day of competition, adding another five gold medals to bring the team's tally up to nine for the Games. The first win of the day went to Darren Kenny, who smashed the men's CP3 kilometre world record by nearly three seconds, and was the first CP3 rider ever to go under 1:10. It was the second gold for Kenny, who also took the pursuit title in his class.
Simon Richardson was the next Briton to double up on gold when he took the men's LC3 pursuit title by six seconds from Fujita Masaki of Japan. Aileen McGlynn and her pilot Ellen Hunter made it three double British gold medalists in a row in the women's B&VI 1-3 pursuit, besting Lindy Hou of Australia, piloted by Toireasa Gallagher.
Mark Bristow then gave Britain another world record on his way to gold in the men's LC1 kilometre time trial. Better known as a team sprint rider, trimmed 0.2 seconds off the record with a 1:08.873. Zhang Kuidong of China gave his country its first medal of the Games with silver.
Yet another gold came Britain's way when Jody Cundy stormed home to set a new world record in the men's LC2 kilometre. The silver went to Czech Jiri Jezek. The British did not sweep the night, however, as Ishii Masashi of Japan took gold in the men's LC3 kilometre with a new world record time. In the men's LC4 pursuit final, Paolo Vigano of Italy cut four seconds off the world and Paralympic record in the heats, becoming the first LC4 rider to go under four minutes for the distance. Vigano overwhelmed his opponent Michael Teuber of Germany by almost eight seconds in the final.
